Anyone successfully set up a GPS puck and a software GUI to have a working GPS in their Raspberry Pi 3B,  4B and or ZERO?

Looking for a project to merge what I own before my Garmin 350 yes an oldie goodier (after the "tubes" version),  dies on me!

I have a USB GPS puck (from Amazon.ca) each running on a RPi 3B+ and 4B.  My primary use is to sync the RPi's clock with GPS time via ntp so that I can operate WSJTX modes (e.g., FT8, FT4, etc.) on my portable stations.

I have also installed and configured Direwolf and Xastir to work with the GPS daemon (gpsd) on these respective RPIs.  Direwolf supports this setup in its config file.  Xastir and Direwolf are fit for purpose for APRS.  Direwolf will use the GPS coords from the GPS puck (via gpsd) when sending TBeacon's and will pass along those beacons to Xastir as well as to an iGate.

Xastir can run on a 7" RPi touch screen.  I have this running in my KX3 go-kit.  It is a little small, but usable.  Xastir also has a pop-up window that shows beacons as they are received from Direwolf (text view).  So if you do not want to look at a map and just want to see who is nearby as a list of stations heard, Xastir provides this view if I remember correctly.  I tend to use the map view when running Xastir more than other windows.  Maps are cooler !!

These days you're probably better off with an android tablet on the go than using a pi..  The android aprs apps are built for screens that size and touch screen use, rather than xastir which prefers bigger and a mouse/keyboard control.

Hi Eric,
like Brian have it running on Pi 3B, 3B+ for APRS, and digital modes. Haven't plugged it into the 4B, but figure it should work.
It works great for even as standalone for getting coords.
I got one from amazon. I think it was a microsoft unit under $30.
cheers,

Or, for mobile use … when plying with your pi is a bad idea …

You could buy an FTM-300 and its all built in …GPS – Nearby Stations – Messaging -  run APRS on one side of the radio and FUSION and Analog on the other…

A shameless FUSION plug…   THAT otta stir things up😊

Well if either of you two gentlemen want to buy me one I would not shy away from the opportunity to see how well it all works.

Just saying!

Enjoy!

What are you looking for?
Back when playing with Mesh, I had a raspi, with webcam and USB gps running.  Last/long were overplayed on to image and available using a webserver.

What info are you after, or are you wanting data or to have gps fed in to another program?
