Hello Parents
As I’m sure you’ve heard from your athlete already, practice today ran less smoothly than normal. Below is an accounting of the weather-related safety measures taken during today’s practice.
I would like to reassure you that safety is our number one priority.
Having surveyed the current weather conditions on the lake and studied the wind predictions and future radar which included no thunderstorms for the duration of practice time, the novice girls launched to row at 4:30pm. Coach Sarah was on a safety launch with the crew on the water, and Coach Catherine monitored the crew on the dock, making sure that both boats were able to get away safely. The novice girls, in an eight and four, headed north to find the best water on the lake. At 5pm, Coach Mike radioed to Coach Sarah that there was a strong rain squall headed for the lake, and the decision was made to beach the boats at the Framingham Town Beach to make sure the crews were safe from incoming wind. Coach Sarah escorted both crews to the beach where they all safely landed and moved to cover. Three other coaches were on site within ten minutes, and when the squall moved in the athletes were able to shelter in two vehicles while it passed. The coaching staff worked to secure the equipment and tow it back to the boathouse. Meanwhile, senior members of the Varsity Girls team picked up the Novice Girls and drove them back to the Town Beach. By 5:55pm, the Novice Girls were able to meet their equipment upon its return and stow it safely back in the boathouse.
