to Mark Foreman, Mike Baker
WW Board, Coaches, Parents, Athletes, and Friends -

I'm writing to let you know that in late August, Mike Baker is moving on from his role as Program Director for Wayland Weston Crew.  Mike isn't going far - he's joining the staff of MIT Crew where he'll serve as Boatman, overseeing boathouse operations for all of MIT's rowing teams. Ironically, he's taking over this role from his identical twin brother, Dan, who is moving on from MIT.

Mike has been with WW since 2015.  In that time, Mike has grown many programs at WW and has seen hundreds of athletes through their high school rowing careers.  Of his many accomplishments, one of his most notable has been setting and maintaining an extremely high level of coaching, building a fantastic team of coaches that work together and lead by example.  Our average coach tenure now is over 5 years - that's rare in youth sports today, and the quality of our coaching is a testament to Mike's focus and effort.

The WW Board is convening a search committee immediately and Mike is helping us find our next Program Director.  We are posting the role nationally this week and are also reaching out to our many local contacts.  This is a unique and appealing role and we trust we'll find someone soon - ideally for the fall season.  In the meantime, we are putting together an interim operations plan so we're all set for the fall.  If you are interested in serving on the search committee, we will have a few openings for parents and friends of WW, so let me know immediately if you are interested in helping.

We're disappointed to have Mike move on but we're also happy for him as he moves into the world of collegiate rowing, just as many of our rowers do every year.  Mike remains part of the WW family regardless of his day job.  Reach out if you have any questions and we will keep the WW community posted on our efforts to find and bring on a new Program Director.

Best,

Mark
