How are the concerns of Ward 7's children/students, parents, educators, and community indicative of educational aspirations in DC?
Guests: Dr. Marla M. Dean is the Founder and Chief Learning and Innovation Officer at Dean’s List Consulting. A native Detroiter, she lives in southeast Washington, DC. She has over 30 years of teaching, coaching, leadership, nonprofit, and executive experience. Dr. Dean is a former English and government teacher, assistant principal, middle and high school principal, turnaround principal, chief of schools and a non-profit CEO in District of Columbia, Maryland, Michigan, and Virginia. She currently serves as chair of the Ward 7 Education Council.
Jhonna Turner is the founder and executive director of the nonprofit Care Washington, D.C. It is a "movement" dedicated to dismantling systemic racism in public education by partnering with schools in communities long impacted by structural inequities and disinvestment. Through a chapter-based model, bridges are built between educators, families, neighbors, and community resources strengthening equity, advocacy, and access...to cultivate economic mobility and radical possibilities for Black and Brown youth.
