** Tools
- Term and Definition Mining Tool. The demonstration system has been
set-up after developing the corpus last quarter. You can now try to
have the system identify and extract definitions from free text.

** Other News
- Outgoing visits: Dr Kazunari Sugiyama is visiting A/P Prasenjit
Mitra's group at Penn State University to work with his group on all
things Citeseer! Congratulations to Kaz in securing this wonderful
opportunity to work with some of the world's best!
- Student Awards: Congratulations to Jun Ping, who will be listed as a
recipient of the School's prestigious Research Achievement Award for
his achievements this year. Jun Ping published two Rank 1 (EMNLP)
papers and two Rank 2 papers (COLING), and independently sourced for
collaborators for a few of his projects. Also congratulations to
Jovian Lin, who has been awarded the NUS Extra Chapter Challenge
extension scholarship funding, to commercialize his thesis research
work on Mobile App Recommendation using Twitter.
- Min gave an invited talk at the 2013 Information Access Symposium to
some 30+ researchers at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in
Tokyo, Japan on 6 December 2013. Min gave an overview of the NExT
search center and also touched upon research by Tao and Jovian in
WING. Check it out:

- USM Penang visits WING: A large contingent of over 40 faculty,
staff, graduate and undergraduate students from Universiti Sains
Malaysia visited WING on 7 Nov 2013. The visitors were treated to a
special talk by the database group and also had a chance to hear about
the latest research by WING through a small poster session, organized
by Drs Kazunari Sugiyama and Dongyuan Lu. WING students and staff
were flattered by the attention we received from the visitors. Thanks
for you visit!
- Visitors: Profs. Shaoping Ma and Maosong Sun from Tsinghua have
visited NUS over the past few months to work on the NExT center's
projects. Dr. Yiqun Liu honored us again by giving a presentation on
Search Engine User Click Model Construction, compressing three recent
works together in an hour's tour of the topic. We also were honored
by Prof. Sadao Kurohashi's visit to NUS to visit the NLP group and
stop by WING. Li Wang, a PhD student from University of Melbourne,
also stopped by to give a seminar in the last quarter.
- Alumni of WING: We had a recent dinner to celebrate Kaz's journey to
Penn State IST and for Jun Ping's thesis submission. Pictures are on
the WING website. Let us know any news items about you. Drop by and
say 'hello'! Feel free to come back for our semesterly outings to
touch base with all of us.
