Hello, all:
Two upcoming events highlight the unique relationships between community-based archives and academia, relationships that are sometimes at the center of collaborative digitization initiatives:
TODAY, Thursday June 16, 1:00 pm Central
Sunshine State Digital Network is hosting a 2-hour workshop on Building and Maintaining Community Relationships. Some familiar faces are facilitating the discussion from WiLS and Recollection Wisconsin: Ann Hanlon, Emily Pfotenhauer, Erin Hughes, and myself.
Join us for a 2-hour webinar focused on establishing and sustaining relationships with community organizations. Two case studies will be presented concerning building partnerships with tribal communities with the Mukurtu Midwest Hub and a digital library community of practice [shout out to the Digital Readiness Community of Practice!] among small and rural historical societies in Wisconsin. The session will include a discussion with attendees about their approaches and challenges with community engagement.

Expanding Our Circles of Care in Academia.
This continuing education session on community archives brings together archival practitioners from UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, and the Association of Moving Image Archivists’ Community Archiving Workshop, to share lessons from their experiences in establishing, growing, and maintaining community archiving projects and programs. Their presentations and discussions will touch on strategies for forming meaningful and reciprocal community relationships, for obtaining buy-in and material support from campus administrators and stakeholders, and activating professional organizations for regional collaboration across institutions.
The event is free for students and SRMA members, and $20 for nonmembers. Registration is open at
