We use RunReg for our race registrations. We download an XLS file the runner's last name-first name, gender, age and email address.

We then open the Excel file and use a Vlookup table to assign age group categories, such as 1-19, 20-29, 30-39, etc..

Then we upload the whole file with the age group categories added for each runner as a new Start list in Webscorer.

Is there a way to define the age group category parameters in Webscorer so we don't need to add the category (age groups) to the Excel file before uploading as a new start list?

It would avoid a step in the process.

Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

David

Yes.  See the “Notes” section at the bottom of this article: https://www.webscorer.com/blog/post/2024/10/06/post-start-list-directly-from-runsignup

While this article refers how to download the reg list from RunSignup, the “Notes” section about age group creation applies to any reg list / start list.

Hi Vesa - is there a way to pre-assign the age categories so that when we upload direct from RunSignUp to Webscorer (on the iPad) the participants are automatically assigned to their respective age group category?  We time events where we have lots (100+) of race day registrations right up to the start of the event - and we dont have time to manually assign the participants to age categories in Webscorer before starting the event.
ie., Our ideal process would be (on the iPad):
1. In RSU - Webscorer.com CSV Export
2. On iPad - Save to Files
3. In Webscorer App - Race w/ Start List - Use Start List Copied to Device
-- And have the participants automatically assigned their age group category

Thanks - Alfred

There is a tool to auto-assign racers to category on the Webscorer website:

Navigate to Organizers / My start lists
Click on “Post start list from RunSignup”
Enter the RunSignup race id & credentials
Click “Get participants from RunSignup”
Select “Sport type” and “Start fype"
Select “Create categories based on age = Yes”
Click on “Post start list”
Add your age groups
Click on “Save changes”
Click on “Map categories to age”
Use the tool to map ages to category
Click on “Save changes”

After the reg closes, you’d then follow these steps:

Navigate to the start list page
Click on “Edit race info”
Click on “Update list from RunSignup”
Click on “Get participants from RunSignup”
Click on “Save changes”

The mapping only needs to be done once. You can then proceed to download the start list to the app, ready for timing.

You can also download the preliminary start list to the app, and once the day-of-race reg closes, update the start list on the website per instructions above and them on the app, tap “Merge start lists” toolbar button on the “Start List” panel to get the day-of-race registrations included.
