Hey folks!

I may be timing a point to point half marathon and 5k next year and I'm trying to work through how I would do this with chip timing at both the start and the finish.

I would have separate RFID readers and antennas at start and finish. Would I need two devices for this or would one computer suffice?

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. At some point in the future I may also have a mid-race timing mat with another reader and I'm hoping these tips would also be applicable for that.

My best,
Tim

Does the half marathon and 5k have the same start & finish line?

Here are the instructions for timing a point to point race: https://www.webscorer.com/blog/post/2020/06/13/HOW-TO-TIME-A-POINT-TO-POINT-RACE-WITH-2-DEVICES.

You’d have a local timing device running Webscorer PRO connected to each reader.  You’d post the results from each device to Webscorer.com which will calculate the results as “Time = Finish time - Start time”.

Here are the instructions for adding mid-way splits to the setup: https://www.webscorer.com/blog/post/2015/06/24/HOW-TO-TIME-A-RACE-WITH-SPLITS-WITH-MULTIPLE-DEVICES

You’d setup the race as having 2 laps as follows:

Record lap times = On
Number of laps = 2
Customize laps names = On
  Lap 1 = Mid-race
  Lap 2 = Finish
Timing mode = Multi-device splits
  Device #1 records = Start
  Device #2 records = Mid-race
  Device #3 records = Finish
