RFID Chip alphanumeric?

Hi, 

I have now done a lot of events in my area and beyond and each time I simply program the RFID chip to be the bib number. For mountain bike races, I have a second chip that I mount to the fork for redundancy (RFID chip is programmed the same as the one on the race plate). Long-story-short, I want to make the number unique for each event. I am afraid that one of these days someone will have an old fork chip in their hip pack because they forgot to return it after a race and the chip will cause a timing issue. 

I started to poke around at testing using Chip ID where I have alpha characters to make the chip unique for the event but I thought I could ask here to see how people are using tags beyond the simple tag=bib approach.

Hi.

I'm using the last 6 number of each chip (unique id) 

So, when yo create the race list (data base), use bib and chip id column.

Second option 

With the same 6 last digit of chip id.

Crete your own code.

AF0001

AF0002

...

...

AF000x

Next race you can change your code 

ABEF01

...

You can use Hex Code 

A, B,C,D,E,F and number 0 to 9

To prevent someone carrying a chip from a previous race, you can use the native (non-programmed) chip ID and include e.g. the last 6 characters as part of the “Chip ID” for each racer. For redundancy, you can double-chip the racers and use the “Chip ID2” column on your start list to list the 2nd chip.

So each racer would have:

Bib
Chip ID
Chip ID2

Limiting the chip IDs to just last x characters make it a bit easier to label the chips and assign them to the correct bib plates.
