What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Use cwebp to convert webp to jpg (can even convert jpg to jpg)
2. Check if it loads in a safari browser of version 11 or older (sauce labs has a free tool)
3. See error loading the resource in dev tools network tab

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?


What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
CWEBP 1.2.2
MacOS 12.5

Please provide any additional information below.

Safari browsers of version 11 or older do not support WebP format. We can use CWEBP to convert our webp images to jpg or png. The conversion however, results in an image that is not usable by these same browsers that do not support webp.

Do you mean dwebp to create the jpg or png files from a webp file? cwebp will only create webp files; it doesn't pay attention to the extension of the output file.

Hi JZ,

I was of the understanding that I can use cwebp to convert images by changing the output extension, not only to webp but also from webp back to other file types. I understand from your comment that this is not the case. Therefore, the issue I created is solved.
