Can someone fill a bug in proper place of android project to make android camera app support webp?

If camera makers don't support webp, there's much less of an incentive to support it on the Web since ordinary people won't be uploading their photos with it.

the webp encoding is already there on the android platform software stack. While nice, the encoding doesn't have to
happen in the camera itself (except for battery saving).

Agreed. Just: uploading only happens once (and most of the time in the background), while downloading happens many many times.
So in the order of priority, serving webp offers better savings.

But nevertheless, things are moving on the upload side too.

Google may put an option in android camera to save in webp loseless mode with highest quality possible. This will make pictures with more quality than jpg in 0% compression because jpg introduce artifacts even in 0% compression mode.

A normal user dont know how to convert image saved from camera to webp prior to upload. It just tap the picture and click on share to upload. But an normal user can click on options, save format, webp to make camera app encode pothos in webp.

Hi,
I 100% agree. No end user will even know WebP if each every own captured photo in every device is in JPG.
Android should capture image by default in WebP, with an option to choose between other enconding formats.
