Hi,

I'm looking for a formal statement from Google that explains the
license and patent status of WebP.

Are there any restrictions on how this technology may be used
according to Google, and according to other companies who might hold
their own patents? I'm asking because this sort of thing killed JPEG
2000. I'm wondering if WebP is any different.

Thank you,
Gili

Thanks for the question Gili.
The license grant is the same as that for WebM described right here: http://www.webmproject.org/license/

Richard.
