This came from a discussion of the codec strings in the addition of vp8 [1] and vp9 [2] in webcodecs [3].

canPlayType('video/webm') SHOULD return maybe
canPlayType('audio/webm') SHOULD return maybe
canPlayType('video/webm; codecs="vp8, vorbis"') SHOULD return probably
canPlayType('video/webm; codecs="vp8, opus"') SHOULD return probably
canPlayType('video/webm; codecs="vp09.aa.bb.cc, vorbis"') SHOULD return probably
canPlayType('video/webm; codecs="vp09.aa.bb.cc, opus"') SHOULD return probably
canPlayType('audio/webm; codecs="vorbis"') SHOULD return probably
canPlayType('audio/webm; codecs="opus"') SHOULD return probably

An additional update might be made to the binding spec [4]. There it might be useful to add a note suggesting 'vp8' as the codec string to align with web codecs.
