OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel M5 6Y54
Browser: Internet Explorer 11
Codecs: vp8 + vorbis

vp8 videos using "WebM Video for Microsoft Internet Explorer 9+" freezes in Internet Explorer 11 under Windows 10.
This seems to be happening on all Broadwell and higher machines (Atom machines as well).

We also found out that Broadwell and higher will run vp8 using IE11 but vorbis is not supported.

Can there be a hotfix for the WebM IE plugin to not interfere with Intel?
If not, is there a way to support vorbis in IE?

It is our customer's demand to support IE11 till its end of life, and would appreciate for any help.

Thank you in advance.

William

Hi William,

I just ran a quick check using the plug-ins within IE11, and everything seems fine. Does the video at the following link work on your test machines?

Whether the link works or not, please file a bug at the following link and attach a small test file that can be used to reproduce the issue.

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

The video stays blank even after hitting the play button.
However, the page does show the following with a smile:
--------------------------------
Congratulations! Your browser reports that it can play WebM video. The browser responded with:
  • canPlayType supported? Yes
  • WebM video supported? probably

--------------------------------

I will make sure to file a bug after figuring out the best way for people to reproduce it.

Thank you for the help!

William

That's rather odd: That sounds more like the behavior I would expect in Edge. How about this test page:

Thanks!

Hi Tom

Sorry for the very late reply.
I opened the link you've provided.
First of all, the top two videos on the page (h264, Webm) shows the thumbnail and the video controller when hovered.
When I click play on h264 video first, h264 plays fine.
When I click play on webm, the nav-bar moves but the webm video goes all black.
The Task Manager were showing high use of CPU even after closing the tab where the video was.
Everything goes back to normal once the IE11 gets closed.

I am using HP folio G1 with Code m5
OS is Windows 10 Pro (Japanese)

If there was any other information you wanted to know, please ask.

Thank you

Is there any software running on the system that would prevent loading of external components by IE? I.e. antivirus or security software of some sort blocking load of a DLL.

Please file a bug and include one of the files you're attempting to play back in IE. It's a long shot that it'll be reproducible off of these machines you're running into the issue on as it sounds like there's some common factor preventing proper load of the WebM decoder DLLs and playback of the input streams on the machines you've tested, but you never know. Perhaps that'll allow me to provide additional insight.

Alternatively, use Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. Or, use VP9 in MSE for Edge. More info on edge VP9/Opus/MSE at the link:
