has anyone a list which mobile processors (SOC's) has support for VP8 / VP9 hardware encode and decode

and how a developer can access to this features
to use this for WebP encode/decode?

I don't have a complete list, but I know the Nexus 10 does as well as Tegra 4 platforms.

On Android this can be done via MediaCodec [1]. This ends up using openmax within libstagefright so the decoder can be accessed there as well.

VP8-based (i.e., lossy) WebP could be decoded by this hardware. An open question now is how much rewriting is necessary. I did some quick experiments rewriting the webp to a webm file which seems to work, but this still needs further investigation.

i know some new Rockchip (exs. RK3188) and Mediatek (exs. MT6588 and MT6592) SOC's
support VP8 and VP9... but more interesting is which chips does support ONLY VP8?

to make a suggestion for friends for buying smartphones/tablets using webp fast later
if the hardware-acceleration is established finaly

what u think is possible.. its thinkable a image-proxy (offline)
compare jpg (softwaredecoded) viewing and webp (hardwaredecoded) viewing

could u image that a hack in OS could compress cached jpg/png-images
by simulating webp as jpg images to speed up any apps similar Opera Turbo (online-proxy)

Note the VP9 solutions are software based for now, the bitstream was only finalized in June. This is similar to the OpenMax solution in Android. In KitKat there's VP9 software decoding.
I happened to find this list [1]. I'll ping some people to see if it's reasonably up to date.

Not sure if I completely understand. Are you asking whether it would be possible to rewrite any local assets and use the hardware decoder to speed-up decode? I think the biggest cost is the transfer so applications like Opera Turbo and similar in Chrome might have a bigger effect.
Assuming the availability of a webp decoder one could store the assets in their apk as webp to cut the download size.

I started that page on the Wiki, most of the older information is largely based on claims on the manufacture websites and doesn't actually mean they have it working and freely available on Android, it just means they make the claim somewhere that they have 'hardware support for VP8' decode or encode. I know other people have been keeping the list updated for newer devices.

There is also an app I made called Benchscaws available on Google Play, with the raw results of VP8 performance of real devices available here http://websca.ws/benchscawresults.php

Hi , I trying to select my next ARM TV Box Soc.

VP9 hardware Full HD could be great. Do we know who will be the first to propose it ?

I've heard of broadcom but nothing like Amlogic or Rockchip ?

Thanks.
