Original Notification: (Sent 2:58 p.m. on August 8, 2023) Good afternoon residents of the City of Watertown. Due to today’s severe rainfall, a sanitary sewer overflow is underway on Greenough Boulevard. The overflow began at approximately 1:15 this afternoon. The Department of Public Works is on site to address the issue alongside J. W. Flett.
Update: As of approximately 3:15 p.m., the sanitary sewer overflow on Greenough Boulevard next to the Charles River has ceased. The overflow likely contains untreated or partially treated sewage and waste. Accordingly, avoid contact with these water bodies for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
