Hello folks,

I have just ran my orginal tires on my Giant TCR Pro 1 disc to death. They lasted a little over 3320km's so not bad. I find the Kitchener roads a mixed bacg of tricks and so are the country roads too. I want something with a little more puncture resistance, lower rolling resistance (need for speed!) and tubeless...

The rims are SLR1's and they are hookless and tubless. I have read that I can run tubes and a clincher design but I would like to stay tubelss and prefer to move from my 25c to 28c. All of your ideas and suggestions are appreciated...and go!

Thanks,
Karl Spangler

Hands down Conti GP 5K 28s either tubed or tubeless. (Depending on your preference)

Yep, over 6200kms ( no flats) on continental 5000 28s w tubes before I changed the rear, 6600 and still running the front one...I ride all the Waterloo region roads but mostly try to avoid gravel except for short sections or the trail into Cambridge...I just bought continental 4 seasons for my in town bike because they have a bit more puncture protection and they roll pretty well...check out bicyclerollingrestance.com for comparison of all the popular tires.

Hands down Pirelli 25’s. They expand to a 29mm

Hi Karl,

Check out this out regarding some tire info for Giant's hookless rims if you haven’t already.

Check out this link for a great review of the GP5000’s (Rolling resistance, wear, puncture protection)

This site is a gold mine of information.

Dino - What’s your basis for the Pirelli recommendation? Any data you can share? (I couldn’t find anything, normally BRR covers all new tires)

Cheers,
Chris

My opinion is strictly based on experience.

On the Pirelli’s now, had the GP’s on the Propel which were fine.  From a road feel perspective the Pirelli’s feel like your on a cotton wall tire. Far nicer.

Aren’t you also on a different bike with completely different wheel set? :)

Yes true.

So if I had to pick from the same wheels (SL1) then I’d go Vittoria Corsa Graphene 2’s.  Roll way nicer then the GP’s as well. Again going merely on feel and not the “numbers”.  From what I recall the numbers are great as well.

Thanks everyone for the great input. Cory, I did see that giant wheel site that states that there are only very specific tires they have tested on their hookless rims. None of the tires mention from this group were on the list, in fact it sounds like the GP 5000’s are dangerous to run? Schwable Pro One’s seem the only good tire recommended that is rate well...

I was looking at the Pirelli’s since one of the online reviewers of my bike said they worked well. That said, I need to order something today, not being in my bike is causing me some mental instability :-)

Oh I missed you had hookless wheels! Yeah in that case avoid the conti’s.

The main requirement for hookless wheels are the need to use tubeless tires, there isn’t a difference is tubeless tires either, or a hookless wheel specific tubeless tire.   Good luck finding something quickly!

I am ending up going with the Pirelli PZero TLR's. There is 26 and 28, any emotions particular to size here? I am bending more towards the 26 since i will be slightly more supple than the 25 Gavia tires coming off...

I would rather go for 28.
It all depends on where you will be riding on.
Especially for longer rides.

I’d go 26 as well. They will expand a little more I think. Close to 28.
