Good morning,
We have a few upcoming webinars for you to consider joining in the coming weeks, and a survey from the Virginia Tech Sensory Evaluation Lab that is seeking participants. Please see below for more information.
- Sensory Evaluation Toolkit Survey -
Are you interested in learning about or adopting methods for assessing the quality of your wines and products? Would you like to contribute to the development of free sensory evaluation resources and training? The Sensory Evaluation Lab in Virginia Tech's Department
of Food Science and Technology is developing a free, web-based sensory evaluation toolkit to support Virginia's wineries and cideries that will include training and resources for product testing and data interpretation.
- Spotted Lanternfly: Research Updates and Panel Discussion - January 13, 12:00-1:30 ET
-
Join us for the first viticulture webinar in the Eastern Viticulture and Enology Forum (EVEF) webinar series, which will focus on exciting research updates about the Spotted Lanternfly (SLF). Talks will feature short presentations detailing results from grower
and consumer surveys, vineyard field trials and experiments, enological experiments, and more. A Q&A and moderated discussion session will follow, where presenters and moderators will answer both pre-submitted and live questions. We guarantee a lively discussion
and the opportunity to get practical, research-informed answers to your SLF questions.
The EVEF Webinar Series is a collaborative initiative of the Penn State Extension Grape and Wine Team and partnering viticulture and enology extension programs from U.S. land-grant institutions (including Virginia Tech!).
- The Future of Grapevine Disease Management February 3, 12:00-1:30 ET
-
The second viticulture webinar in the EVEF will tackle advances in grapevine disease management and feature updates on novel disease management strategies for major pathogens (downy mildew, powdery mildew, and black rot). A panel of grapevine pathology experts
will discuss double-stranded RNA, next-generation biologicals, disease-resistant varieties, phenology-based scheduling, dynamic spray volume technologies, emerging AI decision support, and improved adjuvant-based spray formulations. The session will be followed
by a live Q&A and discussion session. Questions can be submitted ahead of the webinar via the registration portal.
As always, don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
All the best from Winchester,
Drew
