Happy Friday, All!

I am reaching out to the wine production side of the listserv today. My colleagues in Food Science and Technology have developed a sensory tool that they hope will help producers with sensory evaluation, ultimately helping inform decisions. I will be helping to host the in-person walkthrough of the tool at the Winchester AREC. For more details, please see the blurb below. Please feel free to share this with anyone in the wine and cider industries you think may have a use for such a sensory tool.

Wishing you all a safe, happy, and restful Memorial Day weekend.

-Demi.

Participate in the evaluation of a new sensory tool!

As a member of the Virginie wine industry, you are invited to participate in review of a new toolkit for conducting sensory evaluation through a survey conducted by Dr. Alexis Hamilton of Virginia Tech. In this research survey you will be asked to review and provide feedback about a new online tool designed to help producers in the Virginia wine and cider industries conduct sensory evaluation exercises. The survey will provide research data that will be used to improve the final toolkit for producers. There will be no direct benefits to you for completing this anonymous survey.  The survey should take you less than ten minutes to complete, but we ask that you spend approximately thirty minutes engaging with the tool before completing the survey. There are two ways to engage with the tool: through an in-person walkthrough at the Winchester AREC (595 Laurel Grove Road, Winchester, VA 22602) on Wednesday, June 10 from 2-3:30 pm (register here) or online through a self-paced recorded training (see attached flyer, or click here).

If you agree to participate in the study, the first survey question (the informed consent) must be answered “Yes” in order to proceed through the survey. The informed consent will give you more details about the nature of the survey, the handling of any information collected, and contact information should you have questions about this survey. Anyone involved in the Virginia wine and/or cider industries who is at least 18 years of age may take this survey.  Please click on the link here to enter the survey.  For additional information please contact Dr. Hamilton by email at aham...@vt.edu, by phone 540-231-1892, or at Virginia Tech Department of Food Science 1230 SW Washington Street, Blacksburg, VA 24061
