Dear Colleagues,

In 2023, we held our first-ever student oral presentation competition, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.  We will continue with the student competition for the 2024 meeting with an important change to the layout.  All student presentations will now take place consecutively in the afternoon on Day 1 (Dec. 5th) - so that all members may attend.  This is a change from the concurrent-session style last year.  All other member-submitted presentations will be held, as usual, in concurrent sessions (divided across the 3 disciplines) on Dec. 6th - as stated in previous CSFWC email correspondence.  

Attached to this email are details about the award process and judging criteria.  Pay special attention to the deadlines associated with presentation request submissions (due November 8) and abstract submission (due November 21).  When submitting the presentation request form, be sure that you have selected, 'Yes', if you wish to be included in the student competition.  The abstract is required to be considered eligible for the student competition.  

Students will still be judged within their respective discipline.  As in 2023, the winner from each discipline (entomology, horticulture, plant pathology) will receive a certificate of recognition and a check for $300.  Winners will be announced either at the conclusion of the Day 1 session or at the beginning of the evening mixer (depending on time availability).
