Summer On-Campus Employment Opportunities (applications due May 11, 8:00 AM)

A partnership of 27+ units on campus is offering a limited number of paid, on‑campus jobs for students who cannot return home for the summer.

 

This program is designed to support:

• International students, who are only authorized to work on campus, and
• Domestic students who face documented challenges that make returning home difficult.

This effort, piloted by the Cranwell International Center in the Division of Student Affairs, aims to expand access to meaningful on-campus employment for students who are unable to return home during the summer.

 

Positions are intended to provide hands‑on experience, mentorship, and transferable career skills while meeting departmental business needs.

 

Program Details

• Length: 10 consecutive weeks
• Location: Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg (primarily); D.C. area Alexandria campus (limited)
• Employment type: Paid, on-campus only

 

Who Is Eligible?

To be considered, current student applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

1. Willingness to learn and contribute
   You should be ready to learn quickly, take initiative, and build transferable skills that are useful across many career paths.
2. Unable to return home for the summer, including:
• International students (F‑1 or J‑1 visa holders), or
• Domestic students with documented barriers such as:
• Financial hardship
• Family circumstances
• Housing insecurity
• Health or medical needs
• Other significant challenges
3. Available for the full 10-week program
   You must be able to work on campus for all 10 consecutive weeks.
4. Sole on-campus job during the program
   This position must be your only on-campus employment during the program period.
