Dear students and especially folks on a J or F visa with dependents,
As someone who lived on a work permit in a foreign country with my family for three years, I know how difficult it can be.
It’s especially challenging for partners and spouses living in a foreign land with advanced degrees who cannot work, and children joining a new school system maybe out of sync with what they have previously learned.
If you’re an international student with a partner and/or children (maybe on an F-2 or J-2 status), please consider coming to our chill conversation group next Friday, October 11, at 4:00 PM. We are in Harper Hall 1025 and have renovated our Community Room into a very cozy space. We’ll have coffee, tea, and good conversation. We would love to learn more about how life in Blacksburg is going if you’re a student or partner/spouse/dependent of a student.
Staying in the Burg during the Fall Break day? Stop by and say hello.
Please RSVP so we can have enough refreshments: https://gobblerconnect.vt.edu/event/10578803
If you have any trouble with the RSVP link, don’t worry—just come anyway!
We will be happy to see you.
Also today as announced it’s International Café Hour 4-6 PM in Deet’s Place, that’s the Dietrich Hall dining hall on campus. Free food, music, and company with members of the UAE Student Association. Learn about the beautiful culture in this taste of United Arab Emirates event, open to all!
Warmly,
Rob
