Hello
Is it possible to control the brightness of the screen in viewneo or with a plugin?
Our outdoor screen is to bright in the night and I would like to control the brightness automatically based on time.
Thanks a lot Dominik

Hi Dominik,

unfortunately this is not possible. You can only adjust the brightness yourself on your screen.

Best regards

Hi Dominik,

yes it is possible but only if your screen is a professional digital signage screen with an RS232 interface. Please take a look into the user manual of your screen. Your screen must also support the RS232 command for "brighness".

In that manual you should find a chapter with information like this:
Command         Code (HEX)                        Alternate HEX Representation
Power On          08 22 00 00 00 02 D4       \x08\x22\x00\x00\x00\x02\xD4
Power Off         08 22 00 00 00 01 D5        \x08\x22\x00\x00\x00\x01\xD5
Volume Up       08 22 01 00 01 00 D4        \x08\x22\x01\x00\x01\x00\xD4
Volume Down  08 22 01 00 02 00 D3        \x08\x22\x01\x00\x02\x00\xD3
... and so on.

If you have this information and your screen can handle the command brightness using the RS232 interface, you need this to go ahead:
- the viewneo RS232 plugin (https://www.viewneo.com/software/viewneo-plugins/viewneo-rs-232-plugin)
- the user manual from your display, with a code table and a list of all commands you want to use
- a USB to Serial adapter, to connect the viewneo player with your screen using an RS232 cable. (https://www.amazon.de/Hamlet-xurs232microtg-Schnittstelle-RS232-F%C3%BCr-Smartphone/dp/B00T860Y94/ref=sr_1_3?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=micro+usb+to+rs232&qid=1606312768&s=computers&sr=1-3), take a look, which USB (Type A / B / Micro) you need.

In the command table in your screen's manual, you will find the command "brightness" or "set brightness" or "brightness +/-".  You can add a timer and send the 2 brightness (+ or -) commands  to the screen at daily time (e.g. in the morning and in the eveneing)

Here you'll find more detailed information about how to use the plugin:
