ZOOM Configuration - Common Mistakes

  1. Copying an existing ZOOM configuration when adding a new machine configuration.

Copying an existing configuration could result in unknown mistakes in the previous configuration to be added to the newer one. It is imperative to create a new one so that every new version is then manually verified and no mistakes are made.

  1. Randomly naming channels without alpha-numerical logic.

Channels should always be named with a logical alpha-numerical order to ensure proper display of the configured channels in ZOOM Application. Writing the channel number with a two digits number like AG01 instead of AG1 will prevent this. Angles should also be named following a three digit number like 005 or 095 instead of simply 5 or 95. This way, it will ensure proper displaying of the order in the list.

  1. Wrong unit of measurement (mm, mils, μm, mm/s, in/s, etc) and processing (raw, pk-pk, RMS, minimum, maximum, etc)

  1. Selecting “Alarm” type of measurements for absolute vibration and
    shaft displacement.

Selecting the “Sampling” type of measurement will ensure a greater resolution for analysis.

  1. Activating alarms before Hot commissioning of the ZOOM monitoring system.

The hot commissioning includes signal verification under nominal conditions. If the alarms are activated prior to assessing the vibration levels, ag readings, etc. we can run into a situation where the signals are exceeding the alarm thresholds, which can jam the system and fill up your database. Eventually causing loss of valuable data.
