Hi everyone, would any of you be interested in workshops or collaborative meetups for vintage Apple circuit board repair?

I can instruct about and demonstrate things like:
Basic symptom troubleshooting and take-apart
Identifying common circuit board faults (leaked capacitors, broken traces, etc.)
Replacing SMD and through-hole components
Cleaning and bench testing

My expertise is in vintage apple stuff from 1983ish-2005ish, but some of these techniques are universal.

I'd also be particularly interested in meetups with people who already have repair/restoration skills that would like to work together to trade tips, share tools etc.

Yeah, that’d be cool.

I’ve got an Apple //c that sprinkles random characters across the screen that I’ve had trouble diagnosing, and it’d be cool to get some pointers to figure it out.

Also, it’d be good to have someone take a look at my SMD soldering “skills” and get some pointers on how to stop stripping boards 😅 A few of my Macintosh logic boards fell victim to stripping, and would greatly appreciate any tricks-of-the-trade to fix them and/or to prevent repeat casualties, lol.

Hi, I was showing off my Nascom 2 this Saturday at VCF but only just now joined this list.

My Nascom 2 unfortunately got borked in the shipping container (20 years ago), but I have yet to repair it (just ordered a new PSU).

However, my monitor, a Zenith ZVM-121 died over here (likely due to a questionably 120->240 converter).  If anyone knows about how to repair that, I would be most grateful. I'd also be happy to pay my way out as I'm not really comfortable with CRTs.

Cheers,
Tommy

I would be very excited for something like this in the bay area. Understanding basic debugging and repair of hardware is becoming an essential skill to keep these machines running and I have found it almost impossible to find anyone that will do the repairs in a shop. This even goes for CRT TV's and other monitors. It feels like most of my old treasures are all on the edge of breaking! A knowledge swap would be awesome!

This would be great. Looks like there is some interest.
Suggest you find a place and time. Then put it out there, and modify it to accommodate the most peoples schedules.
Also, perhaps put notices on other apple forums to possibly draw in a few more.
