Hey folks,
This is a total shot in the dark, but decades ago I dropped off a vintage Tandy (likely a 1400) at a computer repair place in the Sunset with the hope of extracting files from it-- it was my Dad's old work computer and had some of his fiction writings on it. He used to work for the SF Examiner.
The computer place was a hole in the wall, I think it might have been on Tavaral West of 19th or nearby. I kept calling to check on the progress and getting no updates and then the place closed and disappeared with all of its stock. I was young when this happened, so I was definitely misreading the place-- they said they would display the computer in the window after clearing the files, but they never delivered files. Don't know if they couldn't unlock it, or if they were just scamming me, or if they were drowining in their own business problems or what. This was in the early 2000s.
I've tried in fits and starts over the years to dig up information on the business or try to track down the Tandy, to no avail.
I'm just reaching out here to see if anyone knows the pace I'm talking about, or knows the possible routes the Tandy would have gone. There's quite a few models from that era on ebay, but I'm hopelessly trying to retrieve the files and could care less about the computer.
Any recommendations for, I don't know, a vintage computer dectective?
At the very least, I'm trying to get a narrative together of what could have happened to it to give my family some better closure.
Thanks so much,
Moe
