What are some tips you have learned that you wish you knew on the outset of your ev journey?

Tips for New EV Owners
no more oil changes; no more engine maintenance; no more gasoline pumping; a new era of car travel is upon you

- Get the slow charge at home in the garage set up as soon as possible.  We trickle charge with a slow charging 110 volt, 12 amp charger that came with the car.  Your car may have come with an even nicer charger, though it may require installation.   At home charging is all we need  for commuting around Iowa.  Electricity is  5 cents / KwH overnight here, so our fuel bill is basically zero.  The only possible downside as a renter is that your landlord may have something to say about you charging at home.  We avoid this by not telling him.  :)  Modern garages have 20 amp fuses so we are covered.

Road Trips / DC Fast Charging

- saw a headline that Hyundai is giving out Tesla NACS adapters for free soon and that Hyundais will be allowed on the Tesla network.  that will be a nice addition, basically providing you with full national charger coverage .  We used the Tesla network on a recent road trip to Tennessee and it really smoothed out the planning.  Our dealer charged us $250 for the charger adapter, though.

- We trip plan with PlugShare.com , crowd sourced charger status updates to ease range anxiety. Is an essential resource for non-Teslas.  I regularly update plugshare even with my favorite charge locations in Iowa City, just to promote them.

One downside of having a non-Tesla is that I used the following 6 charge network mobile apps on our recent road trip: Tesla, Electrify America, Circle K Charging, Shell Recharge, EV Connect , ChargePoint app (Tennessee).   And for trip planning Google Maps and Plugshare.   Tesla has all of this built into 1 tool I think.

Thank you for any updates / corrections / additions!

Do you have any suggestions?

Plan for wind! It greatly affects range (along with cold)
