Hey TPP Topplers,
We made it through another week without the Fast Track bill moving! Last week we had an amazing North American day of action in solidarity with communities across the continent. You may have heard the Harry Reid put the TPP back on the slow track in the Senate by formally announcing his opposition to the Fast Track bill.
The bad news is it looks like the Obama administration is going full throttle to change all that. President Obama is making phone calls and setting up meetings with swing democrats to get them on his side. There also might be a new alternative Fast Track bill written as a compromise— we must stand by the message that there is no such thing as fair Fast Track! The TPP ministerial meeting will be in Singapore February 22-26 in Singapore, and it looks like they might be ready to announce that the TPP deal is ready! That would put new energy into the Fast Track bill.
All of this means that we need to put new energy into this fight to make sure we keep up the momentum. We can’t let Obama undermine all of our hard work by schmoozing on capitol hill!
Here are some things we need to do over the next few weeks:
- There is a congressional recess starting next week Februrary 13-26th. This is the best time to set up meetings, do drop-ins, deliver letters, and have rallies outside of your representative’s office, since they’ll be there! Try delivering graphs like DePaul fair trade, showing them that students have been doing their research :

- Call Nancy Pelosi’s office and ask her to formally come out against Fast Track. You can use this petition as a guide for what to say.
- Keep those calls going via www.stopfasttrack.com
- And of course keep on raising awareness through teach-ins and social media!
It might be a tough battle, but together, we will win.
in solidarity,
