2022 Rhode Island Statewide Lidar Enhancement Validation Data 

Using Quality Level 1 statewide aerial lidar elevation data acquired March 26-30, 2022, the following products have been developed by FUGRO and are in the data validation phase.

Data Validation Products  

Auto-generated point cloud classifications

• Vegetation (Classes 3, 4, and 5)
• Buildings (Class 6)

Auto-generated elevation contours (1ft)
Auto-generated 2D building footprints
3D building extraction
Digital Surface Model

It might be better to use the 2022 April aerial imagery in the validation app as it is closer in time to when the Lidar was taken.  This would avoid marking newer construction as missing (unless that is intended).  

 

An example is the site that is shown as I-95 Gateway Distribution Center just north of Airport Rd and the airfield in Warwick.  In the DEM and April imagery, it is still a dirt mound…whereas in the 2022-2023 aerials currently in the application it is fully constructed making it look like the building footprint was not captured.
