Hi,

I was stumped by the value of “↑↑↑” for some elements in

Unfortunately, I found no info about what this notation represents, neither in TR35 nor anywhere else on cldr.unicode.org that I looked.

How is this notation used? Sometimes it seems to reference the value in the element prior to it, but then, e.g. for <script type="Jamo"> that would reference Old Italian, which seems... not correct.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Manuel

(Re-sending to list)

Manuel,
It indicates that the inherited value is used.

If you download the production data from https://cldr.unicode.org/index/downloads it does not have ↑↑↑ markers - it’s only in the source repository. CLDR 46 is out soon.

The data in main cldr git repository includes element values with “↑↑↑”.

Such values indicate that translators explicitly determined that the parent value is always valid.

These values (and the paths they belong to) are removed from the release data, but tools that explicitly access the repository information directly need to remove them.

I’ve filed https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/CLDR-18054  to improve the documentation here.

Thank you very much for the explanation! Yes, that clears things up for me.

Cheers,
Manuel
