Piedmont Promise is a new group in our area that "advances bipartisan policies that protect natural resources, promote sustainable growth, and preserve quality of life for the people of North Carolina’s Piedmont region."

Below is information about a training they are holding on an initiative to reduce the area paved for parking in our communities.

Dear all,

I am excited to share that Piedmont Promise will host an Advocacy Day Training ahead of the upcoming short session at the North Carolina State Legislature.

In my initial one-on-one conversations with many of you, I have heard a strong interest in better understanding and aligning our advocacy efforts. I hope this event can serve as a space for us to learn from one another, strengthen our skills, and build a shared approach to engaging decision-makers.

Please save the date: April 14, 2026, from 5:30–7:30 PM at Parkway United Church of Christ (1465 Irving St, Winston-Salem, NC 27103).

The evening will include:
  • An overview of key advocacy strategies and how we can apply them during this legislative session
  • A presentation from Ryan Carter, Director of Policy at Piedmont Promise, on our current legislative priority: HB 369, the Parking Lot Bill
  • A roundtable discussion to share and learn about each other’s advocacy priorities for the short session and beyond
  • Breakout groups to practice engaging with legislators and delivering public comment
  • Time to call and/or email legislators in support of the Parking Lot Bill ahead of our lobby day on April 22
I will follow up next week with a flyer and additional details. In the meantime, please feel free to share this invitation with others who may be interested. If you have a weekly/monthly newsletter, please also feel free to add this to your upcoming events section! I am interested in engaging with folks who have not had an opportunity to engage with legislative advocacy before! The event is truly open to all who are interested in engaging in advocacy!

Light refreshments will be provided.

I know it is a busy time for all of us environment-focused folks. I hope you can make it! If you plan to attend, RSVP here by April 10.

All the best,
Ben
