The UNCG Sustainability Lecture and Dialogue Series returns this semester with five great events. The series features UNCG researchers addressing issues integral to transforming our knowledge of and connections to the environment in order for us to build vibrant and thriving communities.

In this talk, Tara Webb, School of Theatre, will discuss her research of dye plants from the UNCG area and how discovering the 'genius loci' of a place can be tied to color. She will also talk about plants she has grown for dye research as part of her UNCG Sustainability Faculty Fellowship as well as common kitchen scraps that can be used to create color.

In this talk, Dr. Sarah Cervenak, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and of African American and African Diaspora Studies, will read from part of a chapter from her recent book Black Gathering: Art, Ecology, Ungiven Life. Attending particularly to her engagement with Beloved, Cervenak considers the concept of ecoaesthetics as it manifests in Morrison's novelistic engagements with the concept of home.

On March 31, UNCG and community partners will participate in a one-day, Worldwide Teach-In on climate solutions and climate justice, a project of the Graduate Programs in Sustainability at Bard College.

Environmental Science for Environmental Justice: A View from the Coastal Plain
UNCG's Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability welcomes Dr. Ryan Emanuel, Associate Professor, Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. Dr. Emanuel, an ecohydrologist known for his innovative scholarship on water, environmental justice and Indigenous rights is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. He frequently combines tools and ideas from both the academic tradition and Indigenous knowledge systems in his studies and teaching.
