As a young faculty member at the University of Minnesota in 1966, Dr. Campbell received a travel grant from the National Science Foundation to attend the International Congress of Psychology at the University of Moscow. The trip made an indelible impression on Dr.Campbell by considerably expanding his perspective; professionally, he saw that psychology as practiced internationally was considerably broader than what one was exposed to at any single university, and personally he became aware that there are many more different ways to live than he had heretofore experienced with his Midwestern background.
The Campbell Graduate Research Fellowship, created with a generous donation from Dr. David Campbell, is an international travel fellowship for psychology graduate students. The purpose of the Fellowship is to provide financial assistance to support students attending and presenting at international workshops and conferences related to psychological sciences.
Summer/Fall 2016 Award
For conferences taking place from July 1st through December 31st. The award will pay for documented airfare, registration fees, hotel costs, and other travel expenses, not to exceed $2,000. Students attending (but not presenting) may apply, however, preference will be given to presenting students. At least two fellowships will be awarded.
Eligibility
Any second, third or fourth year psychology Ph.D. student who is planning on attending and/or presenting at an international workshop or conference relating to their field of study in psychology may apply. Domestic (U.S.) and North American (Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean) conferences and workshops do NOT qualify. Dual major psychology Ph.D. students are eligible. International students are also eligible (e.g., an international student may be awarded the fellowship to attend a conference in his/her home country). A student may not qualify for the award more than once during their graduate career.
Upon completion of international travel, each recipient will be asked to submit a short report (no more than 200 words) reporting on the amount of funds used, their activities supported by the fellowship and their perceived benefits.
