Join us in October for Farm to School Month!

October is National Farm to School Month, a time to celebrate our connections between students and local food, share our farm to school stories, and show gratitude to our school nutrition and farmer heroes providing essential services during these pandemic times.

Regardless of how you celebrate, we are asking all participants - schools, communities and families - to sign up. Tracking the impact of Minnesota Farm to School is a great way to share the importance of the work we are all doing to build Farm to School, and will help statewide organizers identify stories and local efforts to lift up throughout the month.

Celebrate farm to school. Share your story.
Thank our heroes.

Celebrate!
Farm to school celebrations will look different for each school and community but suggested activities could include:

  • Crunching into a local apple at home, virtually or socially distanced with your family, classmates and coworkers
  • Adding a local item to a meal, snack or weekly meal kit
  • Serving an all local meal (e.g. Minnesota Thursdays)
  • Signing the Local Food is Essential Pledge
  • Joining a virtual farm tour hosted by Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom
  • Submitting a proclamation to your city or county government celebrating farm to school heroes in your community
  • Cooking a meal with a local item at home with family
  • Hosting an in person or virtual garden harvest party or other activity in the school garden
  • Using class time for a farm to school activity
  • Taking a photo or video of your celebration and posting it to social media using #MNfarmtoschool

Share!
Let everyone know you are celebrating by using the hashtag #MNfarmtoschool and #F2SMonth on your favorite social media outlets.

Thank!
Whether you are a school nutrition professional, a farmer, a student, a teacher or a family, there are plenty of ways to celebrate and show your gratitude.
