I've got a few related questions about training grants and fellowships.

My understanding form another employee in my college, is that there was a working group on NSF fellowships in the current FY. It was determined that for NSF fellowships, they pay would still be spread across 26 pay periods, and if the department wanted the student paid during the 27th PP, they would need to supplement with an RA appointment.

For NIH training grants, I am assuming that I should spread the pay across the exact number of pay periods in the appointment dates.  But we only have one TG, and I'm out of practice.  Can someone confirm?

Thanks.

Hi Heather,
You will need to use the appointment dates and divide against the normal 26.1 pps.
Good luck!

My advice is to look at the appointment dates and count the actual pay periods.  For the current year, I had at least NIH T32 trainee appointment that used 26.2 pay periods due to the leap year.

I've seen that too.  But as I said,it has been so long, I wanted to make sure it was ok to match the per pay period amount of the exact number of pay periods still.

So does anyone have insight into the NSF fellowship committee?   Based on that, our department leadership told faculty that, for any students on a training grant over teh summer they'd have to come up with funds to cover one week of an RA appointment.  Before I actually have our payroll person enter that, I'm hopingto get some more confirmation.
