to CACoP Effort and Cost Share
I have an IEEE award that was a student led project so it was set up with the student as the PI. This project goes through Nov 2021 and I have recently learned that the student will be graduating soon and there is still a balance on the project.
This project was only for lab supplies and services, as well as travel for a conference. No effort was supposed to be charged. How do I show that 1% effort if no effort is to be charged and he is paid on other grants?
Being that the student is leaving soon, can they still manage and charge expenses after they leave the University?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Angi

Hi Angi,
1. Given that the project had limited scope and usability, is there truly an obligation to record 1% minimum PI effort? Just something I thought about when reading your post, since I do not know all of the details. There are some exceptions to that minimum effort expectation.
2. We just set up a 0% appointment for a PI that left last year to allow non-payroll expenses and staff effort to continue being charged to their grants located at UMN. I would look into that option.
