Hourly Research Assistant Position
Pay Data: Skills, Pay and the Future of Work
AI is transforming parts of the labor market. The skills needed for certain roles are fast changing, and new job roles are being created. The overarching goal of this project is develop an appropriate AI algorithmic approach to extract and understand pay and skill information at scale, that in turn can answer interesting questions about the labor market. To achieve our goal, we have secured access to job posting datasets, containing 292 million job postings from LinkedIn and 275 million postings scraped by LinkUp directly from employer websites.
We are looking for a graduate student that:
· Has experience with (or can quickly adapt to) working with Google BigQuery databases.
· Can create efficient data processing pipelines that include API calls to LLMs and innovative use of NLP approaches and other ML algorithms to study skills.
· Is organized and creates code (Python or R) that is “easy” for others to maintain and expand upon.
Period: Now-May 31st 2025 (grant application pending to support the work through the Summer of 2025).
Minimum commitment: 10hrs/week.
