Dear Masha --

I hope you're doing well!  I'm writing to let you know that we still have two postdoctoral positions open at the University of Arizona for our NSF RTG on Data Driven Discovery. If you have any students (or postdocs) who are still on the market, please do encourage them to apply. Note that we broadly define data science, and it is not necessary that applicants have previously worked in this area (their research must simply complement a member of the RTG faculty, listed below). In addition to sending an application on mathjobs, please also ask them to email me directly so I can look for their application.

Thank you!  hope to catch up with you soon.

Kevin

Brief summary:
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Arizona welcomes applications for Postdoctoral Research Associates I. Subject to the availability of funding, these are three-year postdoctoral positions (non-tenure eligible) with an appointment beginning in Fall 2023. Review is on-going, and the positions will remain open until filled. US citizenship or permanent residency required.

The positions are specific to the Research Training Group (RTG) in Applied Mathematics and Statistics for Data-Driven Discovery at the University of Arizona, which is supported in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The RTG seeks postdoctoral researchers with interests at the intersection of modern applied & computational mathematics, statistics & data science, and applications to physical, biological, and engineered systems. The purpose of the RTG is to conduct vertically integrated training in diverse research areas, including (but not limited to) imaging and image processing, high dimensional and complex data analysis and statistical inference, machine learning for data-driven modeling and model reduction in multi-physics dynamical systems, environmental data assimilation and uncertainty quantification, and physiological time series analysis, with an emphasis on the design, analysis, and application of modern machine learning and computational statistics techniques. The RTG conducts training activities year round, including a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, offering ample opportunities for mentoring and collaboration.

The work will be carried out at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. The candidate is expected to begin employment at the start of Academic Year 2023. Successful candidates will be housed within the Department of Mathematics with close mentoring by an RTG faculty member, a diverse group of UA faculty with wide-ranging interests. Current RTG faculty are Mathematics / Statistics / Applied Mathematics faculty Misha Chertkov (co-PI and Chair, Applied Math Graduate Program), David Glickenstein (co-PI and Director of Graduate Studies, Mathematics), Ning Hao, Leonid Kunyansky, Kevin Lin (PI), Laura Miller (co-PI), Yue (Selena) Niu, Marek Rychlik, Shankar Venkataramani, and Hao Helen Zhang (co-PI and Chair, Statistics Graduate Program), as well as Electrical / Biomedical Engineering faculty Ali Bilgin and Molecular Biology faculty Megha Padi.
