The National Science Foundation (NSF) Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship (MSGI) Program provides opportunities for mathematical sciences doctoral students to participate in internships at federal national laboratories and research facilities.
What will I be doing?
The NSF Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship (MSGI) program is aimed at students who are interested in understanding the application of advanced mathematical and statistical techniques to "real world" problems, regardless of whether you plan to pursue an academic or nonacademic career. Internship activities will vary based on the assigned research project and hosting facility. As part of your application, you will identify your top 3 research projects from the 2023 NSF MSGI Project Catalog. The project catalog now has over 90 projects from mentors at 15+ hosting laboratories across the U.S.! You can review the catalog here: ***https://orise.orau.gov/nsf-msgi/project-catalog.html***
How long is the internship? Where will I be located?
Internship appointments are for 10 consecutive weeks on site at the assigned hosting facility between the months of May and September. For a list of hosting facilities, please visit: https://orise.orau.gov/nsf-msgi/.
Internships may result in a virtual placement.
Benefits: You will receive a stipend of $1,200 per week during the 10-week internship period. You may be eligible for inbound/outbound travel reimbursement up to $2,000 if relocating within U.S. more than 50 miles from the hosting facility.
