WHO?
MS and PhD students who are interested in working at the intersection of computation and health sciences.
WHAT?
Apply to summer internship program (SIP) in biomedical research at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Applications are open now and close Wednesday, March 1st, 2023 at 11:50pm ET. Online application is available here: https://www.training.nih.gov/programs/sip
WHEN?
Summer internships generally cover a minimum of 8 weeks, with students arriving at the NIH in June.
WHERE?
SIP will likely be held in-person at the NIH's main campus in Bethesda, MD.
WHY?
Get paid $$$
Get involved in biomedical research! Example topics include bioinformatic algorithms, genomics, imaging, data science.
Work with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research.
Find a permanent graduate research position. A successful summer internship may be extended into a permanent research assistantship sponsored by NIH. Examples of the hosting programs for past and present UMD students include the Cancer Data Science Laboratory (https://ccr.cancer.gov/cancer-data-science-laboratory), NCBI (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/research/), NHGRI (https://www.genome.gov/research-at-nhgri/Investigators) and many others.
