Our department is currently hiring for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. We would greatly appreciate it if you could share these postings with your graduating Ph.D. students, alumni, and anyone else who may be interested.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), warmly invites applicants for the following two positions beginning August 17, 2026:

1.     One tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Applied Statistics (Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics with a specialization in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field)

Preferred Qualifications: 

·       A record of or demonstrated potential for effectiveness and excellence in teaching statistics and/or data science courses, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. 

·       Experience or interest in developing undergraduate curricula in statistics and/or data science 

·       Experience or demonstrated potential for integrating undergraduate and graduate students in research projects 

·       Research experience and publication records in Statistics, Data Science, High-Performance Computing, Machine Learning, or a related field 

·       Successful experience at the post-doctoral level or in industry, ideally including interdisciplinary collaboration 

·       Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body 

·       Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or experience using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom

2. One tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics (Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, or a related discipline)

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Successful teaching experience at the university/college level with a diverse student body 
  • Experience or demonstrated potential for integrating undergraduate and graduate students in research projects 
  • Ability to complement existing teaching expertise and research programs in the department, college, or university 
  • Research experience and publication records in Computational Mathematics, Scientific Machine Learning, Mathematics Modeling, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, High-Performance Computing, or Optimization 
  • Successful experience at the post-doctoral level or in industry, ideally including interdisciplinary collaboration 
  • Potential for developing/maintaining a funded research program 
  • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body 
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or experience using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
