Dear All,

Hope you're well.

The BioGeMT project is thrilled to announce the start of the BioGeMT Project Seminar Series!

Throughout this year, a number of seminars will be delivered by different academics regarding key topics within the field of Bioinformatics. These seminars will be held online through Zoom and will consist of a talk delivered by an expert followed by a Q&A session. All UM academics, staff and students are invited to join these seminars and delve deeper into the world of Bioinformatics!

The first seminar will be on Monday 17th February 2025 between 1 pm to 2 pm. During this seminar, Prof. Fotis Psomopoulos will be delivering a talk titled, 'Improving trust for AI in Life Sciences through FAIR research software'. You can find the abstract for this talk below:

Ensuring that research software follows the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles has gained momentum, extending efforts previously focused on data management. The rise of AI and machine learning in scientific workflows necessitates high-quality, reliable research software, emphasizing rigorous quality control throughout the software lifecycle. Various initiatives and funded projects, such as ReSA, Turing Way, SSI, and EOSC EVERSE, provide best practices and guidelines to enhance software development, testing, and deployment. Benchmarking plays a crucial role in assessing AI performance, requiring standardized protocols, services, and community involvement to ensure transparency and comparability. Additionally, ongoing efforts, such as RDA FAIR4ML and AI4EOSC, aim to interpret and apply FAIR principles to machine learning, yet further collaboration is needed for widespread adoption.
