Subject: Attn: Visiting Seminar Wednesday 16th Oct 3pm - Translating basic science into clinical trials for neurodegenerative disease (Prof. Dr. C. Griesinger)
To:
Dear Colleagues,
It is my pleasure to be welcoming Prof. Dr. Christian Griesinger, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, Germany, to deliver a seminar talk on:
Title: Translating basic science into clinical trials for neurodegenerative disease
Date/Time: Wednesday 16th October, 3-4pm in the nALR (Biomedical Sciences Building)
Prof. Griesinger is an expert in NMR-based structural biology, and studied at the ETH Zürich with later Nobel laureate Richard Ernst. He develops methods in NMR and applies them to structural investigations of disordered proteins, such as the alpha-synuclein protein, a key player in Parkinson’s disease. Modifying alpha-synuclein’s structure by small molecules lead to the discovery and patenting of anle138b, a compound which is presently undergoing clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease. Prof. Griesinger was awarded the Sommerfeld (1997), Leibniz (1998), Bayer (2003), Elhuyar-Goldschmidt (2011), Bücher (2012) and Ampere (2014) prizes and an ERC advanced grant (2008).
You are kindly invited to attend, and please forward this email to others who might be interested.
With kind regards,
Prof. Neville Vassallo
