Dear colleagues,
With apologies to those who may already have received this information through other channels, we would like to share the Call for Papers for the upcoming Genesis Lisbon 2026 conference, A spear into the darkness – Intuition and Genetic Criticism.
The conference invites proposals for papers on the re-observation and re-appraisal of intuition in the field of genetic criticism. Topics covered at the conference will include, but are not limited to:
- The nature of intuition in genetic criticism;
- Confirmed or corrected intuition on any aspect of the collection, classification, and analysis of a genetic dossier;
- The status and function of evidence in genetic criticism;
- Change of view on the genetic process due to the emergence of a previously unknown document;
- Different reasonings based on the same genetic data;
- Models of reasoning in genetic criticism;
- Differences between intuition, evidence and proof in genetic criticism;
- The roles of digital tools and methodologies in the acquisition and retrieval of documentary evidence, and the way they refine intuition;
- Processing undocumented genetic stages in interpretation.
To submit a proposal for a 20-minute presentation, please send an abstract (of no more than 300 words), a short bio, and your affiliation to genesis...@letras.ulisboa.pt by 15 January 2026. Acceptance notifications will be sent via email on 1 March 2026. Information regarding logistics, registration fee, and other details will be published on the conference website during the registration period. The conference is co-organised by the Centre of Linguistics of the University of Lisbon (CLUL / FLUL), the Institute for the Study of Literature and Tradition of the Nova University of Lisbon (IELT / NOVA FCSH), and the Institute of Modern Texts and Manuscripts (ITEM, CNRS / ENS, Paris).
