Boa tarde,
Citar o JGF é bom para perder à partida qualquer luta argumentativa J J
De resto, a minha amiga AI segredou-me isto (sublinhados meus):
The primary disadvantages of locating an airport in the centre of a city revolve around environmental impact, safety concerns, land use conflicts, and constraints on development for both the airport and the surrounding city.
Here are the key disadvantages:
✈️ Environmental and Health Impacts
Noise Pollution: This is often the most significant and widespread negative impact. Aircraft take-offs and landings generate high levels of noise, especially in the densely populated areas of a city center. Chronic exposure to this noise can lead to adverse health effects for residents, including sleep disturbance, increased stress, community annoyance, and a potential risk for cardiovascular disease and hypertension.
Air Pollution: Aircraft engine emissions, along with emissions from airport ground support equipment and the heavy road traffic generated by the airport, contribute significantly to poor air quality in the urban core. Key pollutants include nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter, which pose local health risks.
Land and Water Contamination: Airport operations can lead to pollution from things like fuel spillages, de-icing chemicals, and maintenance waste, impacting local soil and water resources.
🏗️ Developmental and Operational Constraints
Limited Expansion Potential: City center locations offer little to no room for future expansion of runways, terminals, or other facilities. This lack of space severely limits the airport's capacity to handle growing passenger numbers and air traffic, which can eventually lead to the airport becoming obsolete (a common reason for moving older urban airports, like Denver's Stapleton, further out).
Height Restrictions (Obstruction Zoning): Strict height limits are imposed on buildings in the flight paths and surrounding areas to ensure flight safety. This stunts the density and vertical development of the downtown area, directly conflicting with the economic and urban-planning goals of many modern city centers.
High Land Opportunity Cost: The large area of land required for an airport is extremely valuable in a city center. Using this prime real estate for an airport results in a high opportunity cost, preventing the land from being used for other high-value purposes like commercial, residential, or mixed-use development.
🚨 Safety and Land-Use Conflicts
Increased Risk of Accidents: While rare, the potential consequences of an aircraft accident are catastrophic when the airport is surrounded by high-density residential and commercial developments. Locating an airport away from population centers helps to reduce the risk of civilian casualties in the event of a crash.
Land-Use Incompatibility: The existence of a major infrastructure like an airport creates continuous conflicts with surrounding land uses (e.g., residential areas, schools, hospitals) that are sensitive to noise and pollution. This often results in long-term legal and political disputes.
Would you like to know about the advantages of a city-center airport, or some examples of cities that have relocated their airports?
