Passing of Professor Chiang C. Mei

I'm writing with great sadness to share that Professor Chiang C. Mei, passed away on July 17th.

Professor Mei spent more than 50 years in MIT's Civil and Environmental Engineering department, and that work — and the community around it — was one of the great joys of his life. 

Professor Mei was a giant and an intellectual leader in the field of water wave theory. His ability of  using elegant mathematics to explain complex physics was most admirable and enjoyable.

He will be deeply missed by his former students, collaborators and friends.
