Coastal hazard mapping, especially regarding extreme water and wave levels, is crucial for effective coastal management and defense design. Extreme Value Analysis (EVA) is a common tool to link the magnitude of extreme events to their frequency. However, accurate quantification is challenged by modeling errors, short historical records, and signal non-stationarity in a changing climate. This PhD project aims to enhance global extreme event statistics using long-term, high-resolution modeling data and satellite observations, together with cutting-edge data-driven methodologies to be applied to relevant coastal variables. These advancements will significantly improve our ability to predict and manage coastal hazards, ultimately contributing to safer and more resilient coastal communities.
