Dear Coastal and Ocean community,

Part of our mission at Sofar is to progress science. So we've decided to make our data freely available for academic research.

As you may know, our team is deploying the largest free-drifting metocean buoy network across our oceans (see weather.sofarocean.com). The Spotter buoys collect real-time wave (full spectrum), wind, surface currents and SST data. Starting next month, our updated buoy platform will add barometric pressure and rain intensity data as well. As of now, all data is available to academic researchers through a non-commercial license and accessible through modern APIs.

If you're interested in data access, just visit this page to sign up or learn more:

We're excited to share our data with the ocean community! Look forward to hearing from you.
