Dear Colleagues,

Xuanting Hao (UC San Diego) and I are organizing a focus session at this year's APS Division of Fluid Dynamics (November 23–25 in Houston), titled "Turbulence in Atmospheric-Oceanic Boundary Layers." This session aims to bring together researchers from experimental, numerical, and observational backgrounds to explore the complex and multiscale dynamics of turbulence in the coupled air-sea boundary layer. These flows play a critical role in shaping weather patterns, driving climate dynamics, and affecting the safety and performance of offshore and coastal infrastructure, including marine renewable energy systems.

The session will highlight:
  • Recent advances in understanding transient, nonequilibrium, and multiphase turbulence;
  • Innovative measurement techniques and modeling approaches (including data-driven methods);
  • New opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in wind-wave interactions and boundary-layer research.

Your participation and support will help elevate this emerging topic within our community and build a strong interdisciplinary network across oceanic and atmospheric science.

To submit your abstractWhen using the APS DFD abstract submission portal, please select "Focus Sessions" as the category, and then choose our session: Turbulence in Atmospheric–Oceanic Boundary Layers.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word through your networks. You can also find the conference site here: https://dfd-meeting.aps.org/abstracts/

We hope to see you in Houston!

Best regards,
Kianoosh and Xuanting
