Job Title: Physical Oceanographer
Location: Seattle, WA, Houston, TX, or Charleston, SC
Description: RPS MetOcean Science & Technology is an oceanographic consulting firm seeking a highly motivated individual as an integral part of a team of specialized data analysts for a full-time position including benefits. We are seeking a self-starting individual with a positive attitude who can adapt to a fluid work environment and an occasionally demanding schedule. This person must have an exemplary work ethic, think critically, communicate, and collaborate effectively with the team, be able to manage an incoming workload across multiple projects, and be flexible to work longer hours when needed to meet deadlines.
Educational requirement: MS in physical oceanography, ocean engineering, or related field or BS in oceanography with focus on physics or related field and three years’ experience.
Capabilities:
· Knowledge of oceanic and atmospheric physics
· Understanding of different mathematical problem solving and statistical analysis techniques
· At least three years of processing time series data collected by a wide variety of MetOcean instrumentation
· Writing and implementing customized code in MATLAB for time series analysis and visualization
· Maintaining code libraries with version tracking
· English fluency and report writing
· Competency handling MetOcean instrumentation
· Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
· Programming in other computing languages such as python
· Have a valid drivers’ license with acceptable motor vehicle record
· Familiarity with blue-water ADCP data, LiDAR, and wave data
Responsibilities will include:
· Conducting quality control, data analysis and interpretation

· Responding to client requests for MetOcean products

Job Title: Marine Technician
Location: Houston, TX
Description:
The Marine Technician will work with specialized marine and oceanographic instrumentation systems in onshore, costal, and offshore work sites, which include onboard ships, small vessels, and offshore platforms. Individual contributor role with no day-to-day supervisory responsibility but may be designated lead on projects and duties as required. Motivated individuals with strong work ethic and technical ability will have opportunity to advance into leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities:
· Testing, setup, installation, retrieval, and maintenance of oceanographic instrumentation systems.
· Troubleshooting sensors, serial and network communications, data loggers and software, and DC power systems.
· Performing maintenance on sensors and deployment systems in a shop environment including painting, mechanical assembly, and repairs.
· Maintaining documentation on instruments, performing checklists, preparing trip plans and field reports.
· Performing installation and maintenance offshore on ships or platforms, often requiring helicopter travel to/from site.
· Domestic and International travel required for trips averaging 3-5 days but can be up to 4 weeks for larger projects.
· Perform duties either autonomously or in a team environment with strong communication skills.
· Maintain professional interaction with clients, site staff, and subcontractors while offshore.
· Ensure all work duties are performed in conformance with company HSE and Quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
· A.S, B.S. or technical degree in marine science, engineering, or related field.
· Experience in instrumentation troubleshooting, other field technician roles, or similar military experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
· Strong analytical skills to aid in troubleshooting and problem solving.
· Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
· Experience interacting with and troubleshooting sensor systems with software and electronic testing equipment.
· Mechanical ability and use of hand/power tools for maintaining and repairing equipment.
· Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings to verify installations and aid in troubleshooting electronics.
Requirements:
· Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
· Maintain a valid drivers’ license.
· Proof of COVID vaccination as required for offshore travel.
· Hold or able to obtain certifications for offshore work including fit for duty medical examination, helicopter egress, TWIC card, fall protection, and other HSE related training.
